(Miami) Luis Arraez went 5-5 at bat and Jorge Soler hit a long ball as the Miami Marlins beat the Toronto Blue Jays 11-0 on Monday.
Jon Berti had three hits and Jesús Sánchez had two deuces for the Marlins, who finished with a season-high 19 hits and won their fifth straight game.
Arraez has hits in 67 games played, the second-fastest player to 100 hits in Marlins history. Dee Strange-Gordon reached that milestone in 65 games in 2015. Bo Bichette had two hits for the Blue Jays. Bichette also hit the 100-hit mark with a single in the ninth inning.
“It’s fun because we’re winning and everyone is getting hits,” Arraez said. I’m excited for this team. We are a family when we take the field. »
Arraez’s fifth single to left field produced two for five in the seventh inning.
Soler hit a two-run long ball and Garrett Cooper also hit a single in the third inning to make it 3–0 for the Marlins.
Pitcher Bryan Hoeing pitched four scoreless innings. He allowed three hits and struck out five, a career high.
Daulton Varsho and Bichette both hit singles in the fourth inning.
“They made it work,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. He made a lot of pitches. The execution just wasn’t there. They have a good team and are playing well at the moment. »
