(New York) A cameraman hit in the head by an inaccurate relay Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium suffered a fractured eye socket and returned to his home, where he is recovering.
This was announced by YES network officials in a press release sent out on Thursday.
Posted immediately to the side of the New York Yankees dugout on the first base side, YES Network’s Pete Stendel was hit by a pitched ball by Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson of Baltimore who was trying to complete a double play in the fifth inning.
Stendel was taken to a hospital and YES Network officials said on Wednesday that he was conscious and undergoing tests. The network released an update on Thursday confirming the nature of the injury and stating that Stendel had been discharged.
The game was stopped for approximately 17 minutes while Yankees medical staff administered first aid to Stendel. The Orioles players left the field and waited on the dugout. Players on both teams looked worried as the drop of a pin could have been heard in the stadium.
Stendel was placed on a stretcher and carried out of the playing area, waving two fingers, a gesture that was met with applause from the crowd of 36,022 spectators.
