(Seattle) JP Crawford and Teoscar Hernandez contributed to a five-run seventh-inning blast with doubles good for two runs apiece, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9–8 on Saturday.

Together, the two clubs hit seven long balls. Additionally, the two hit three home runs in the same inning.

“Any time we get a win like that against any team, it’s important to us, especially against a good team like the Blue Jays,” said Crawford.

The Mariners led 3-0, saw the Blue Jays come from behind and take the lead 5-3 and 7-4 before regaining control of the game with their blowout in the seventh.

The Blue Jays made it interesting in the ninth inning with three hits off Justin Topa, including a productive single by Cavan Biggio that cut the Mariners’ lead to 9–8.

Topa retired Kevin Kiermaier with a fly ball, then George Springer with a ground ball as the tying run was at third base to end the game. He got a second save this season.

Cal Raleigh hit two long balls for the Mariners, and Dylan Moore and Julio Rodríguez added solo home runs. For Rodríguez, it was the first since June 24.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Brandon Belt and Kiermaier scored for the Blue Jays in the fifth inning against starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. The Belt and Guerrero Jr circuits. won consecutively.

The Blue Jays then took a 7–4 lead when Dalton Varsho hit a single good for a run after two outs before crossing home plate when Hernandez reacted badly to an Alejandro Kirk hit.

However, the Mariners had a comeback in reserve. It all started when Blue Jays reliever Nate Pearson (5–2) reached Ty France to open the seventh inning and gave Moore a double.

Kolten Wong followed with a one-run single and Crawford followed with his two-run double, which went past Guerrero Jr.

Yimi Garcia appeared on the mound for the Blue Jays, and for the second straight game, Hernandez had the upper hand against his former team.

On Friday, he scored the clinching point in the ninth inning. Less than 24 hours later, he hit a double for two runs that gave the Mariners a 9–7 lead.

The victory went to Isaiah Campbell’s record (1-0).

“Our bullpen, which has been very, very reliable for us this season, has dropped a little bit,” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “This is baseball. It happens sometimes. »
