(New York) San Diego Padres reliever Robert Suarez was suspended 10 games by Major League Baseball, becoming the sixth pitcher since June 2021 to be penalized for using a banned sticky substance.

Suárez’s suspension was announced on Friday. Suarez immediately appealed the case and will not serve the suspension until the case is resolved.

Suarez was ejected Wednesday in the eighth inning of the Padres-Miami Marlins game. The umpires made the decision after finding a sticky substance on the pitcher’s left wrist. Suarez claimed it was just sunscreen.

Major League Baseball has decided to be stricter against the use of banned substances since June 2021.
