(Toronto) Chris Bassitt shut out eight innings, Alejandro Kirk had three runs as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Wednesday.
Bassitt allowed just three hits and one walk. He struck out three batters.
Kirk hit home plate twice and had three of the Blue Jays’ 12 hits. Santiago Espinal had two runs and Davis Schneider scored two.
Jay Jackson caused the last three eliminations.
Going into Wednesday’s games, the Blue Jays (73-61) were three and a half games behind the last American League playoff spot.
The Blue Jays are chasing the Houston Astros, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers, who started the day tied for the top of the West Division and two spots away from the fourth ace series.
Patrick Corbin (9-12) walked Schneider in the first inning, then a single to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. They stole twice and then scored a Kirk double.
Kirk hit another double in the fourth as the Blue Jays scored two more runs. He reached third base on a single by Ernie Clement, then scored on a single by Espinal. Cavan Biggio then allowed Clement to spin home with a sacrifice fly.
