Blue Jays defeated 4-0 by the Yankees
(New York) Aaron Hicks hit a two-run homer on Monday on Tuesday to help the New York Yankees win 4-0 over the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hicks allowed his team to score first for the first time this season in five games.
He sent a Yusei Kikuchi (0-1) slip past right center field, scoring a first homer this season.
Nestor Cortes and four relievers limited the Jays to three singles and two doubles.
The Blue Jays had 23 runs in their first four games for a total of 38 hits.
Last season, Hicks didn’t play beyond May 12 with a wrist injury. He had to be operated on.
Cortes gave up three hits in four and a third inning, knocking out five hitters. He did not allow a base in hiking.
Clay Holmes (1-0) had five eliminations. Miguel Castro had to deal with a mistake in the seventh. Jonathan Loaisiga retired Vladimir Guerrero with a single shot in the eighth, with two runners at base.
Aroldis Chapman had two hitters at bat in the ninth.
New York added a run on a mistake in the fourth, then Giancarlo Stanton hit a sacrificial fly in the eighth.
Kikuchi was the victim of three runs and five hits in three and a third inning.
Jays right fielder Teoscar Hernandez defeated Josh Donaldson in the first inning after a double by Anthony Rizzo. Donaldson got himself into trouble when he stopped as soon as he got to third base.
Wednesday night, José Berrios (0-0) will face Gerrit Cole (0-0).
Berrios had the shortest start of his career as a starter of the season, coming off after 34 shots against Texas.
He knocked out just one hitter, allowing for four runs and three hits.
