(Toronto) Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer will not play this season due to a muscle strain in his right shoulder, the team announced Wednesday.
General manager Chris Young added that Scherzer is unlikely to play in the playoffs if the Rangers qualify.
The 39-year-old three-time Cy Young Trophy champion left Tuesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays in the sixth inning. He allowed three hits and one walk and struck out two batters in five and one third innings.
