(Kansas City) The Kansas City Royals have pushed back their self-imposed deadline of late September to decide on a location for their new stadium.
However, they remain certain that their new proposal will be presented to voters for a vote scheduled for April.
The Royals are split between a site in the center of the East Village, which would hold the Kauffman Stadium replacement in Jackson County, and another across the Missouri River in Clay County.
Royals owner John Sherman reiterated that the team is trying to decide by the end of the month. But first he must reach agreement with political leaders on funding.
Construction of this new stadium and surrounding area is expected to cost $2 billion, making it the largest public-private partnership in Kansas City history. Sherman said the Royals would pay half that amount and cover any excess costs.
