(Detroit) Detroit Tigers star Miguel Cabrera hit 3,000 career hits on Saturday in a 13-0 win over the Colorado Rockies in Game 1 of a double.
Cabrera became at the same time the 33rdand player in Major League history to do so and the first from Venezuela.
Still threatening even at 39, Cabrera made history by hitting a ground ball that pierced the inside of the field in the first round, at the expense of his compatriot Antonio Senzatela.

“I thought I had to do this today,” Cabrera said.
Cabrera immediately raised his right arm to the sky as he headed for the first pillow. The crowd at Comerica Park gave him a standing ovation and fireworks went off from the scoreboard.
“I am happy to have achieved the feat here. I’m glad the people of Detroit were able to attend. I hope to get even more hits here,” said the star of the day.
‘Miggy’, two-time American League MVP, Triple Crown holder, four-time batting champion and 11 All-Star Game winners, is clearly one of the greatest hitters in history.
Cabrera also helped the Florida Marlins win the World Series in 2003 when he was just a 20-year-old rookie. The years went by and Cabrera added another feat to his impressive streak on Saturday after hitting a career-hits plateau of 3,000.
There is no doubt that one day he, too, will be entitled to his plate in Cooperstown.
Cabrera didn’t stop there and added a two-run single in the sixth inning, to get his 3001and career stroke.
Cabrera is only the seventh player in Major League history to hit 500 home runs and 3,000 hits. He was joined by Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Eddie Murray, Rafael Palmeiro, Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez.
Cabrera is the seventh player of Latin descent to hit the 3,000 hit mark. Pujols is the last to achieve the feat, in 2018.
Cabrera is also the third player to reach his 3,000and career success wearing a Tigers uniform. Ty Cobb and Al Kaline are the two previous players.
“Al is one of my heroes. It’s really sad that he couldn’t see that blow because he was constantly talking to me about that moment, Cabrera said. I hope wherever he is now, he is happy and smiling. »
