(New York) Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman is a finalist for the American League Cy-Young Award.
Gausman is in the running for the title of best pitcher along with Sonny Gray of the Minnesota Twins and Gerrit Cole of the New York Yankees.
The finalists for each of the top individual awards presented each year by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America were announced Monday on MLB Network. The winners will be announced next week.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is nominated for the title of his team’s most valuable player in the American, as are his teammate Corey Seager and Marcus Semien of the Texas Rangers.
Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. as well as Los Angeles Dodgers Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman are being considered for the same honor in the NL.
The Cy-Young trophy at the Nationals will be awarded to Zac Gallen (Arizona Diamondbacks), Blake Snell (San Diego Padres) or Logan Webb (San Francisco Giants).
For American League Rookie of the Year, pitcher Tanner Bibee (Cleveland Guardians), first baseman Triston Casas (Boston Red Sox) and infielder Gunnar Henderson (Baltimore Orioles) were signed.
At Nationals, the candidates are Corbin Carroll (Diamondbacks), James Outman (Dodgers) and Kodai Senga (New York Mets).
Fighting for the title of American coach of the year are Bruce Bochy (Rangers), Kevin Cash (Tampa Bay Rays) and Brandon Hyde (Orioles). In the Nationals, Craig Counsell (Milwaukee Brewers), Skip Schumaker (Miami Marlins) and Brian Snitker (Braves) are considered.
Voting takes place before the playoffs.
