(New York) Carlos Mendoza was officially hired as Mets manager on Monday after signing a three-year contract and given the mandate to revive the New York franchise after a disastrous 2023 season.

The 43-year-old will be introduced to the media on Tuesday at Citi Field. His deal includes an option year left at the club’s discretion for 2027.

Mets owner Steve Cohen and his wife Alex were the first to be named in the statement confirming Mendoza’s hiring.

“Carlos is dynamic, passionate and it was easy to see that he will have a very good relationship with both the veterans and young players on the team”, they stated in the press release.

Mendoza spent the last four seasons in the city, serving as Aaron Boone’s bench instructor with the New York Yankees.

He will succeed Buck Showalter, who was fired after a two-year stint in charge of the Mets on the final day of the major league regular season.
