(Toronto) Instructor DeMarlo Hale will return to the Toronto Blue Jays’ dugout next season as associate manager to John Schneider, the team announced Monday.

Hale has been bench coach for the Cleveland Guardians for the past three seasons.

“When the opportunity arose to return to Toronto in this role, I felt it was the right thing to do,” Hale said in a statement.

The 62-year-old Chicago native was a bench coach for the Blue Jays from 2013 to 2018. He also worked for the Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox during his 22-year career as a major league instructor.

The Blue Jays are coming off an 89-73 season under Schneider, who was in his first full campaign as the team’s head coach. Toronto was eliminated by the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the American League playoffs.

The 2024 season will begin on March 28.
