(Atlanta) The Atlanta Braves removed outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. off the injured list on Thursday, more than a week before his scheduled return to action following knee surgery.

Acuna is expected to hit number 1 on Thursday night against the Chicago Cubs. He would normally alternate between a role as a right fielder and a hitter.

The reigning World Series champions are in trouble at the start of the season and are still trying to win a first series after splitting the first two games of this three-game series against the Cubs.

The Braves are hoping that Acuna can breathe some life into the offense after being effective during his rehab season with the AAA Gwinnett farmhouse.

Acuna had two hits in five with the academy on Wednesday night, and he went .368 with three steals in six games there.

The Braves have assigned outfielder Alex Dickerson to clear a spot that will be offered to Acuna on the active roster.
