(Nashville) John Gibbons is back in major league baseball.
The former Toronto Blue Jays coach will support Carlos Mendoza with the New York Mets as an instructor on the bench.
The 61-year-old Gibbons managed the Blue Jays from 2004 to 2008 and then from 2013 to 2018.
He played in 18 games for the Mets’ affiliates in 1984 and 1986.
From 1991 to 2001, he worked as a coach or instructor in the minor leagues.
The Mets also hired Antoan Richardson as first base coach, Mike Sarbaugh as third base coach and Jose Rosado as bullpen coach.
Eric Chavez will take over as hitting instructor. This year he was the bench instructor, helping Buck Showalter.
