(Toronto) The Blue Jays will delay the start of their season by 24 hours, the Toronto Major League Baseball team announced Thursday.
The Blue Jays will open their season on Friday night, March 27th against the Athletics. The start of the campaign at home was initially scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, March 26th.
The reason for this change was not specified. However, given the Blue Jays’ growing popularity nationally during their run to the World Series in 2025, a Friday night opener would likely better capitalize on the buzz surrounding the team.
The Blue Jays also announced that, with few exceptions, home games will continue to start at 7:07 p.m. ET weekdays, 3:07 p.m. on Saturday and at 1:07 p.m. on Sunday.
The Canadian team will play 12 of its first 15 home games in 2026, including the much-anticipated resumption of the World Series against the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers on April 6-8.
