(New York) Mets scorer Max Scherzer will miss six to eight weeks with an oblique left flank muscle strain, another blow to the already starved New York rotation.

Scherzer, winner of three career Cy-Young trophies, underwent an MRI scan on Thursday, the day after a shortened six-inning match against St. Louis Cardinals due to a “pinch” felt on the left flank.

The Mets said the test detected “moderate to severe” voltage.

The 37-year-old right-hander is 5-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight games after signing a three-year, $130 million contract with the Mets. Scherzer, who played in eight career All-Star games, knocked out 59 and walked 11 in 49 2/3 innings on the mound.

The Mets started Thursday with a six-game lead at the top of the National League’s East Division.
