(Boston) The Seattle Mariners have placed Quebec infielder Abraham Toro on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left shoulder, in addition to naming outfielder Steven Souza Jr. for the assignment.
Toro was injured in the Mariners’ loss to the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. He collided with right defender Adam Frazier trying to catch a weak ball in the first inning.
In 38 games this season, Toro is hitting .179 with six home runs and 13 RBIs.
For his part, Souza appeared in just six encounters with the Mariners and hit three in 19 hits.
To replace them on their roster, the Mariners called in AAA outfielder Taylor Trammell and all-rounder Sam Hafferty.
Before facing the Red Sox on Sunday, the Mariners had lost 18 of their last 24 games.
