(St. Louis) The St. Louis pitcher Louis Cardinals Jack Flaherty will make his first start of the season on Wednesday in the series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Coach Oliver Marmol announced the shocking news ahead of the start of the first double-round match between the two teams on Tuesday.

In principle, Flaherty would make a third rehab start on Wednesday with Memphis, the Cardinals’ AAA-level farm club.

Marmol said Flaherty will be limited to around 60 pitches.

Flaherty, a right-handed man, had platelet plasma injected into his shoulder in early March to fight inflammation. He has been impressive in his two minor league rehab matches, allowing just one run in seven innings.

Flaherty, 26, is considered the Cardinals’ star player and is 32-24 with an ERA of 3.34.

Last season he went 9-2 with a 3.22 ERA before a shoulder injury cut short his season.
