(Philadelphia) Bryce Harper returned to the Philadelphia Phillies hitter role for Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates after a 52-game absence with a broken left thumb. And he wasted no time in making his presence felt.
In his first outing since being hit by a pitch by San Diego Padres’ Blake Snell on June 25, Harper appeared with the bases occupied in the first round and hit a single to right field for two points against Bryse Wilson ( 2-8), giving the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
After one inning, the Phillies were already 4-0 up as they find themselves in the midst of a winning streak after completing a four-game home run against the Cincinnati Reds.

Rhys Hoskins hit a single, a double and scored a run for the Phillies.
In the defeat, Bryan Reynolds, Ben Gamel and Rodolfo Castro scored for the Pirates (47-78), who lost six in a row and 12 of the last 14.
Sent to the mound in place of the injured Zack Wheeler, Phillies starter Bailey Falter (2-3) dropped out of three runs and five hits in six innings. He had six strikeouts and walked zero.
Brad Hand made a fifth defense.
During Harper’s absence, the Phillies went 32-20 and entered Friday’s game in second place in the quest for the fourth National League ace.
