Georgia celebrated its first win in the EuroBasket groups and in front of its crowd, beating Turkey 88-83 in Tbilisi in a dramatic game decided in two overtimes with the Bucks’ Sandro Mamukelashvili as the savior.

After Sandro Mamukelasvili redeemed his team with a big three, Georgia resisted Ergin Ataman’s Turkey to prevail 88-83 in the second overtime.

The game was nerve wracking as the dismissals were falling… rain as there were three in total (two by players and one by Ergin Ataman). The game was dramatic in the final, with Sengun giving Turkey a temporary lead, but the response was not long in coming: it was Mamukelashvili who kept Georgia alive with two points with two minutes left and sent the game into overtime.

There, Sanli gave Turkey a three-point lead while Georgia missed several chances to close the gap. Indeed, the home side protested heavily for a period, the Turks missed shots and McFadden got Georgia back in the game with a three-pointer. Another three-pointer from him with a plank took the Georgians’ breath away, but the second overtime was not long in coming.

The Georgians had the psychology and the crowd on their side, they were in front with four, but the Turks equalized with Sengun and Osman (81-81). Sandro Mamukelasvili scored the three (81:84) and in the end Georgia held in the final and celebrated their first win.

In fact, almost in the middle of the fourth period, there was almost an episode when Korkmaz and Sanatze exchanged words and … started a feud. However, the referees sent off both players for the remainder of the game.
