Lithuania overtakes Hungary 87-64 to stay alive with twin towers
With no points left, Lithuania got what they needed against Hungary and a comfortable 87-64 win kept them alive in the battle to qualify for the EuroBasket KOs.
Lithuania had to win to qualify for the knockout stages of EuroBasket 2022. The Baltic Giants had no other choice and, confirming the predictions, defeated the – merciless Hanga – Hungary 87:64.
Since the game was of one-sided interest, it was to be expected that the game would tip over from the start. The Sabonis and Valanciunas duo put the Magyars in the baskets and the difference began with…geometric advancement for all of Maksvitis.
Lithuania didn’t have a good three (6/25) but racked up 18 offensive rebounds, took second chances and hit consistently with an impressive 64% from the line (27/42). A circumstance that helped her not to feel any pressure and to achieve what she really wanted, not to say goodbye to the tournament prematurely.
