Gerasimos Bozikis, former president of the Brazilian Basketball Federation, has died
Gerasimos Bozikis, who served as President of the Brazilian Basketball Federation from 1997 to 2009, breathed his last at the age of 79.
Gerasimos Bozikis, one of the people who wrote their own unique history in basketball in Brazil and South America in general, has passed away at the age of 79.
As an athlete, he played in Kizuka, Rio de Janeiro and then in Botafogo, where he was also general manager, and from 1985 to 1996 he was president of the basketball federation of Rio de Janeiro before becoming president of the national federation.
Nicknamed “Grego”, he was a member of the World Basketball Federation’s headquarters for a number of years, with FIBA Secretary General Andrea Zagli saying the following regarding the loss of Gerasimos Bozikis:
“Very bad news from Brazil with the news of the death of Gerasimos Grego Bozikis. An incredible story of a young immigrant who left Athens and arrived in Rio de Janeiro and won the hearts of Brazilians and Latinos with his love of basketball.” and his hard work. We will miss him. A basketball gentleman.”
