Source: Bagatskis resigns as head coach of Ukraine national team

Latvian expert Ainars Bagatskis He completed his work in the national team of Ukraine and in the “Kyiv-Basket”, gave information to the fan club of the Kyiv club and other sources.

Ainars began his second stint in Ukraine three years ago when he headed the Kyiv-Basket and the Ukraine national basketball team.

Next season, the Kievans will play exclusively in Ukraine with their young squad, so Bagatskis will stop working with the yellow-blacks.

Cooperation between Bagatskis and FBU also ended. The match against Poland (86:94) of the 1/8 final of the EuroBasket was the last match of Latvia at the head of the national team. Both parties have decided not to renew the contract and the coach is already exploring other employment options in Europe.

For a three-year run with Kyiv-Basket, the Latvian won silver and bronze in the Super League and led the team to the FIBA ​​European Cup playoffs twice.

Led by Bagatskis, the Ukrainian team advanced to the finals of EuroBasket 2022 by passing the group stage from the second place and reaching the 1/8 finals. However, the team failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup and theoretically had little chance to break through the qualifying barrier.
