Prometheus – PAOK 100-86: Agravanis sent him to the Greek Cup Final Four
Dimitris Agravanis dominated and led Prometheus into the Greek Cup Final Four with a grandiose appearance thanks to the victory over PAOK (100-86) at “Dimitris Tofalos”.
Prometheus was impressive from the 5th to the 20th of the match, walking away with double-digit differences and claiming the win – qualifying for the Final Four of the Greek Cup (100-86) against PAOK. Ilias Zouros’ players did what they wanted until the break, resulting in +25, which essentially went undisputed until the final.
And when Dikefalos tried to ramp up his pressure and gain something in the fourth quarter (the difference dropped to -9), Dimitris Agravanis was there whenever it was needed to maintain the hosts’ lead.
Their leader was also the one to inflict the most damage on opposing defenses with 27 points (with 7/12 two points, 1/3 three points, 10/15 shots, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals). A worthy supporter is Jeray Grant, who finished the night with 24 points (two points on 9/11 and 6/6 shots) and 5 rebounds.
The race
PAOK started the game well, capitalizing on Marvin Jones’ executive consistency to reach +4 (8-12) in the 4th minute, the change came back from there. Prometheus reacted very quickly, found points on many players and got away with short procedures. The Ilias Zouros players were consistent from the three (3/6 in the first period) and led the difference to +15 (29-14 in 9′) before the end of ten minutes.
Whatever Aris Lykogiannis tried, it didn’t work. Dikefalos was problematic in defence, out of place in attack, and so was cast into the role of accomplice who could do nothing. As much as Vlado Jankovic and Marvin Jones fought, there was one team that worked perfectly against them. Somehow the difference not only didn’t narrow but widened even further, with the +25 (60-35) half for Prometheus making him an unflinching favorite to qualify for the Greek Cup Final Four.
In the third ten minutes, PAOK showed more willingness to fight in defense and quickly had a (small) win. The visitors went from -25 at half-time to -16 (64:48) in the 25th minute and showed signs of reaction. However, Prometheus would not allow them to approach. When did Dimitris Agravanis and Nikos Gikas do the work for Ilias Zourou’s team that maintained the safety difference until the 30th minute of the game (78-62).
Over time, PAOK seemed to have more energy than Prometheus, with his shorts doing a better job. With Jermaine Love now warmer in attack, the visitors managed to reduce to -9 (88-79) with four minutes remaining.
The counterattack stopped there, however, after Ilias Zouros’ players took advantage of the fact that PAOK had completed the team fouls early. They made contact, won fouls and consistently cut the air from the line (96-81 in 38 minutes) to achieve ultimate dominance and qualify for the Greek Cup Final Four.
