BAGATSKIS: “My contract with the Ukrainian Basketball Federation has expired”
Head coach of the Ukrainian national team Aynarlar Bagatkis personally confirmed that his contract with the Ukrainian Basketball Federation has expired to work in the national team:
“The contract with the federation is over, yes. To determine the future fate, you need to think, discuss.
Our relations with Kyiv-Basket are over. There hasn’t been a basketball game like this in Ukraine in the last six months. We spent this time in Latvia, where they helped us. If someone says I’m at home, I’d like to say that I’ve only spent the night at home twice in the last two months.
The story is over with Kyiv-Basket. But I never say never. Let’s see what happens next. I need to back off a little. It was not the easiest period for me. It wasn’t just for gamers. All the coaches did a great job during this time. Whenever possible, I would like to thank the members of my headquarters in the Ukrainian national team. But the coach is also a human being. Sometimes he needs to rest.”
Bagatskis trained with the Ukrainian national team at EuroBasket 2022. The blue-yellow team advanced to the playoffs, but lost to Poland in the 1/8 final (86:94).
The Latvian specialist will not continue to work at the head of the capital of Kyiv-Basket, which he also chaired in 2019, after which he won the silver medal in the Super League and reached the quarter-finals of the FIBA European Cup.
