Norrkoping Dolphins – Budivelnik. Champions League qualifying match prediction and announcement
The match between Norrköping Dolphins and Budivelnik will be played on Wednesday, September 21 in Lisbon. The fight starts at 20:00 Kyiv time. The match will be broadcast live on UNIAN TV channel.
The new basketball European Cup season 2022/2023 will officially start today. Eight matches will be played throughout the day in the FIBA Champions League qualifiers. The Ukrainian team will also participate in this event. Kyiv “Budivelnik” will argue with the Swedish champion “Norrköping Dolphins” to advance to the semi-finals of the qualifying tournaments.
In total, 24 clubs will start their FIBA Champions League qualifiers, which are divided into four qualifying paths of six teams each. Only the winner of a single six will receive a coveted ticket for the regular season.
According to the results of the draw, Başkent Budivelnik was determined on the way to the C qualifying, in addition to this, Portuguese champion Benfica, Cyprus Keravnos, Kosovo Golden Eagle representative, Swedish Norrköping Dolphins and German Bamberg will also perform. The representatives of Germany and Cyprus have been seeded and will begin their journey from the semi-finals, while the other four teams will start qualifying from the quarter-finals. Portugal, Lisbon has been chosen as the venue for all matches in our group of sixes. The first opponent of the Ukrainian club will be the Swedish champion, and the winner of this match will meet the German “Bamberg” ahead of the tournament table.
Sweden Norrköping has a long history. The club was founded in 1963 and was then still called Hageby. And the team got its current name in 1992 thanks to Sweden’s largest zoo and the first dolphinarium in the country, located near the city. During its 59 years of existence, Budivelnik’s rival has won seven league titles, including the final seasons 2020/21 and 2021/22.
The Dolphins won last year’s gold medals by beating Jamtland Basket 4:2 in a very difficult and interesting final series. After that, the main characters of that team continued to be promoted to further status titles. Among the remaining key players from last season are Sweden center Adam Ramsted and local shooting guard Nathan Dawit.
The Swedish champion completely changed the legionnaire part of his squad. Two American forwards James Murray-Boyles and Zach Thomas and Canadian defender Coby McEwen have been announced for the FIBA Champions League qualifiers. Of all these companies, Zack Thomas is the most famous among Ukrainian basketball fans, who played 10 games with Budivelnyk in the 2020/21 season, but failed to impress the coaching staff of the Kyiv club and was fired.
The duel between Ukrainian and Swedish clubs can be full of surprises, as this will be the first official match of the season for both teams. But looking at the team rosters, it is Budivelnik who has the advantage. Still, Norrköping doesn’t even come close to status players like Archie Goodwin and Anthony Barber. Returning after playing at EuroBasket 2022, Bohdan Bliznyuk and Vyacheslav Bobrov should also be in good playing form. All this makes the Kyiv club the favorites of this match.

Zaporozhye coach: “It was a serious challenge for our team”
Head coach of BC Zaporozhye Dmitry Shchiglinsky He summarized the results of the team’s last matches in 2025 against Krivbass (68:84) and Niko-Basket (78:67).
“Going into the last calendar bubble this year we clearly understood how important this was for us in terms of tournament position. “Krivbass” were right behind us in the table and “Niko-Basket” were playing at home, so both matches promised to be extremely difficult. We were also without our captain Anton Buts, who was injured, which significantly affected the preparations.
We had a bad start to our match against Krivbass, the opponent scored their first long range shots, became confident and kept control of the match for most of the game. We managed to reduce the difference to 4 points in the fourth quarter, but unfortunately we did not have the strength to do more. Krivbass’ last attack with 11:0 gave them an important victory. In the absence of Anton Buts, they had to use rotation and it was not easy for Vyacheslav Kiktev to counter the opponent’s big players.
Our expectations were also the highest for our second match against Niko-Basket. We recently met with this team at the Ukrainian Cup and made a comprehensive analysis. I would like to thank my assistant for her quality work. We analyzed the mistakes in the previous match in detail and focused on playing defense. Even though we made many interventions at the beginning of the match, we could not immediately gain the scoring advantage. The team added more after the first quarter. There were quick breaks, easy points and a more organized attack, and these ultimately brought results. We got the win we needed.
Overall, I am happy with the results of this dough. We maintained our place among the top four teams in the Super League, so I evaluate the performance positively. Playing without one of the starting five players is a serious challenge for our team. I thank the men for their character; “After the defeat in the first match, no one gave up and the next day we played a high-quality game, first of all, as a single team.”
