Oleksandr Volkov, Honorary President of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, commented on Prometheus’ decision to withdraw from the next Super League draw.

It should also be noted that Volkov did not say why the FBU forced Prometheus to pay an entry fee of 4.5 million hryvnia.

“Today is a very difficult time for Ukraine and for our basketball. I believe that at such a time, each subject of the Federation should consult and communicate with the leadership, head of the FBU, and coordinate their actions, and only then take decisions, understanding the consequences for all basketball.

As everyone knows, Prometheus’ entry into the Eurocup was a very difficult moment for us. We cooperate very closely with FIBA, which welcomes us halfway in every way. When our club went to the Eurocup, we saw that it wasn’t very good, to say the least.

Second story: It’s not clear what the purpose of the funding Prometheus is offering to individual clubs is. Again, this was done by bypassing the Federation. These actions are completely incomprehensible. In this case, the FBU must respond and I fully support the president’s decision.

In this case, there should be direct communication. When Prometheus had questions, everything was settled between FBU and club leaders. The federation only protected the interests of the club. I see no problem with the Prometheus leadership contacting the Federation President directly and resolving issues. If it is possible to maintain a high-budget club and finance other clubs, it can be done through the FBU, with the guarantee that all the money will help the Premier League clubs.

There is a long standing analogy – the Luxury Tax (luxury tax) in the NBA. If a club wants a bigger budget and the superstar builds a team, it pays the league extra money, which is then distributed. “There’s nothing special about it, and if Prometheus wants to support clubs directly, it’s right to do it through the Federation.”
