Diao on Embiid and the France national team: ‘We would like to have him at the 2023 World Cup’
Boris Diaw has again confirmed the possibility of France having Joel Embiid in their squad for the 2023 World Cup, leaving everything open.
Joel Embiid now has a French passport in his hands and the French are hoping to have him with them at the 2023 World Cup and that came from the now official lips of Boris Diaw.
The French basketball legend – and current general manager of the French national team – spoke about this particular topic in an interview and was completely honest about it.
“It has yet to receive appropriate approval from FIBA. But it would be nice to have him and play for the France national team.” Diao first explained, then added: “We know he’s holding a French passport now, so why not. We try to have as many good players as possible and build a team that plays well together.”
It’s clear that it’s still early for such thoughts as the French are also hoping to add two more key players to their roster at the next major FIBA tournament: Nicolas Batum and Nando De Colo, who didn’t compete in the EuroBasket 2022, but it’s open to a return in a year.
