Prometheus does not plan to participate in the championship of Ukraine 2022/23

Head of Prometheus Vladimir Dubinsky reported that the club refused to participate in the Ukrainian championship next season. According to Dubinsky, the FBU board made a discriminatory decision about Prometheus, contributing 100 (!) times more to the club than other clubs.

“Today I have to give you the sad news about our club’s participation in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship of the 2022/2023 season…

… Unfortunately, even at such a difficult time for our country and for all sports, there were those in the Ukrainian Basketball Federation who put their own ambitions or private interests before the general interests of the basketball community and the state as a whole.

On September 13, under the leadership of the President of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, Mr. Mikhail Brodsky, who had been to Italy since the beginning of the war, a meeting of the Executive Committee of the FBU was held using the Zoom conference, a discriminatory decision for our basketball club “Prometheus” was adopted almost unanimously. An application fee of UAH 400,000.00 has been set for all clubs participating in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship. and exclusively for the basketball club “Prometheus” this contribution amounts to UAH 4,500,000.00, which is 100 times more than the fees of other clubs.

We sincerely hope that the President of the FBU, Mikhail Brodsky, will join the Ukrainian people and return to Ukraine as soon as possible and understand how difficult it is now to organize the training process and find funds to support clubs, and also understand the situation of athletes and coaches. bombardment under the constant threat of missiles, they want to play and do not depend on the shameful and biased decisions of the FBU.

Today I have to state a sad fact – the flagship club of Ukrainian basketball, the current champion of Ukraine, the club whose matches and victories increased Ukraine’s rating to 16th place in the ranking of Basketball Champions last year. While the league was collecting record points for the country, FBU was actually kicked out of the Ukrainian championship with its actions and decisions today.

Basketball club “Prometheus” will not take part in the XXXII Ukrainian Basketball Championship among men’s teams in the 2022/2023 season, unless the Ukrainian Basketball Federation eliminates the manifestations of prejudice and discrimination against our club.

We remain in the country, we continue to work and do everything for our common victory, the Club continues to represent Ukraine in the international arena.
