Jumbo at the Women’s World Cup with France’s big win over Australia
Day 1 of the Women’s World Cup was combined with France’s great performance in front of 10,000 Australians. All results.
The women’s basketball world championship held in Sydney celebrated its premiere on Thursday (September 22nd).

I would also like to thank the New South Wales Government for their valuable support from Destination NSW and of course the Australian Government. Over the next 10 days, we will celebrate the power and excitement that women’s basketball has to offer.
This is FIBA’s premier women’s competition and an important part of our strategy for women in basketball. FIBA is committed to continuing to raise the profile of women’s basketball around the world with many initiatives on and off the court.
The new calendar for women is one of them. There are more national teams, more opportunities to play, further developing the game and bringing more excitement to our fans. And we do that by improving the conditions for our athletes. I hope you all see today what a wonderful place our Australian hosts have prepared for our players and fans.
