Kharkiv Falcons President Sergey Chebishev confirmed that the club will not participate in any league of the Ukrainian Basketball Championship, but assured that the team will continue to exist after the victory in the battle.

Kharkiv Falcons will not appear in the 2022/2023 season. It was a tough decision, and I even mentioned at a club leaders meeting before the season that we would try to build a team for the Major League, but we gave up on that idea. There are several reasons for this.

First, in terms of infrastructure and location, Kharkiv cannot be a normal training base. Many halls have been demolished, others are in very poor condition and we have no idea whether they will ever be heated in winter.

Second, they are human. We thought that we could find our young people who would both defend the honor of the city and gain experience in league matches. However, it turned out to be very difficult. We couldn’t even find local men to attract.

Third is money. Even if they need much less for the Major League than for the Super League. But we have set our priorities and now they are focused on winning the war.

Yes, we had an offer of help from Prometheus, for which I am sincerely grateful to Vladimir Dubinsky. I also spoke personally with the regional leadership of Poltava, who offered us a place for training. However, all this was incomprehensible to us in terms of the general importance and necessity of the team at this special time for Kharkov. Believe me, we have brought this issue to the agenda many times, even at the level of the leadership of the city and the region, sponsors and bosses. And as everyone says: the team should be, but after our victory. Therefore, we have taken such a completely unpleasant decision at the moment,” said Sergey Chebishev.
