VTB United League will not seek armor for basketball players
The VTB United League does not plan to seek armor from mobilization for basketball players, said league president Sergei Kushchenko.
Russian President Vladimir Putin last week announced a partial mobilization in Russia due to the situation in Ukraine. According to the head of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu, 300,000 people are planned to be drafted.
– So far, there is no information about the mobilization of basketball players. We monitor on a daily basis. So far so good. We are waiting for some tools from the government. But until the state policy is discussed, as it is, it will be so. We will not seek armor for basketball players, ”said Kushchenko, quoted by Match TV.
He also noted that the league is preparing to start the season as planned. The first matches are scheduled for October 2.
“Now we are getting ready for the start of the season. And so far, we have not received any messages to not start. We promptly clarify all the points with the Ministry of Sports and the government,” the head of the VTB League emphasized.
