The additional foreigner means one less season change for the Basket League teams
The 6+1 for Basket League teams is now a default decision by ESAKE, but includes a small asterisk regarding the changes teams can make during the season.
The Basket League is now one step closer to the final presence of 6+1 foreigners in the league following the positive vote to that effect at ESAKE’s General Assembly on Monday 3rd October. The federation’s factions endorsed this specific change and are now awaiting the “green light” from both the EEC and the Deputy Department for Sport (the regulations will be submitted to both bodies for opinion) for the regulatory change to take shape.
But what does this (imminent) change mean?
First of all, we must repeat that the number of foreigners that each team can declare in the dozen of a game will not be changed in the slightest. She simply has the opportunity to select the six most suitable players for each game day from a pool of seven players.
In order to achieve relative equality, the parliamentary groups also agreed to another change in the Foreigners Ordinance. According to this, teams that choose 6+1 foreigners will have one less change (two instead of three) in the first round of the championship.
At the same time, despite 6+1, the maximum number of foreigners that each team can declare during the season does not increase, since “12” remains the magic number.
As for the starting lineup for each game, this should be communicated to ESAKE by 12:00 on the day of the game. It is of course worth mentioning that the 6+1 does not apply to the playoffs, since in this case the teams must, as before, declare the final six of the foreigners for the postseason before it starts.
