Vesely: “It’s important that everyone understands their role.”

J.Vessery (Ostrava, Czech Republic, 2.11 inches tall, 32 years old) this summer, barca, under contract for the next three seasons. After eight years of Fenerbahce of istanbul, the Czech center joined the Barça club project that was looking for him earlier. His track record supports him. With the Turkish team he managed to win euroleague (2017), in addition to 4 leagues and 3 leagues cupHe was named MVP of the best European competition in 2019 and has participated in the best quintet three times. Previously, partisan He also added several titles before his three-year career in the NBA. Washington Wizards world Denver Nuggets.

How are you adjusting to Barça, your club and your team? And how is your family adjusting to this city?

Everything is going very well at the moment. I’ve been here for less than a month and it’s been a pretty busy few weeks, but all is well. For now, we are delighted.

How are your teammates? are they good boys?

Yes! They are good boys. The time we spent together was short, but we were all good friends, helping each other, talking…

Are you ready to fight for every title? Do you prefer the Euroleague? Or what are your thoughts on this?

Yes, of course the Euroleague is a great title that we have to compete against, but there are high expectations all around us and we want to win everything and not just the Euroleague. I want an ACB and a cup.

What did coming to Barca mean to you personally after eight years at Fenerbahçe?

It was a very difficult decision, but I knew that change was necessary. I think it was the best decision for me.

You are the Euroleague MVP and have played in some of the best quintets. Do you feel like you have nothing more to prove, or do you still have the spirit to prove something?

Well, I don’t know, but never in my career have I thought about and played for these individual awards. The only thing I always worried about was helping the team as much as I could. I think it’s different at Barça than at other teams. Because ACB is much more competitive than other leagues and there are no easy games. He also knows very well that Barça usually doesn’t play more than 25 minutes per game. What ultimately matters is that everyone understands their roles and functions and does their best to help the team.

What do you think you can contribute?

I think it’s my experience over the years in the Euroleague and Fenerbahçe. I think my game has changed and I am now a smarter player on the court. I think we have to play aggressively and help a lot in defense.

Last season, Barça played very well in the middle of the season, but didn’t do well at the end of the season. How can you be on top of the season’s key moments?

Well, playing at the highest level for 10 months is no easy feat. There are always ups and downs, so I hope those lows come at the beginning of the season, not the end of the season, but we’re all sure. We understand that in the final stages of the season we have to play at the highest level. I think the key is mentality and focus, being able to focus more when the decisive moment comes.

You have Zeljko Obradovic as your coach and now you have Sarnas Jasikevicius. How are they similar and how are they different?

One of the reasons I came to Barça was for Salas (Sarnus Jasikevicius). His philosophy and understanding of basketball was similar to Obradovic. Both are very perfectionists and are very aware of fine details. Sometimes it’s true that some have different styles that give them more freedom and others that don’t, but in the end they have their own rules and you have to follow them on the court.

Here at Barça, you are reunited with your compatriot and best friend, Thomas Satoransky. I have had a special connection with him over the years on the pitch, including with the Czech national team. Here at Barça, I think we’ll see that…

Yes, of course, Thomas is a point guard. You have to adapt a little. Because we are both new, we have different team styles, and we have different players around us. I forgot to keep passing the ball to me!

PLEKHANOV: “There are also a few points I would like to point out”

Head coach of “Kharkov Falcons” Valery Plekhanov He summarized the team’s 2025 results and talked about the preparations for the continuation of the season:

“Summing up the results of the calendar year, I want to congratulate all our fans on the upcoming New Year and Merry Christmas, wish our favorite team peace and good victories! “Kharkov Falcons” are the first players of this Super League season, so second place at the moment is a good result.

There are a few points we would like to emphasize separately. First of all, seven players from last season’s active squad won the Premier League together, but five of them never played in the Super League. Therefore, the experience they gained in the first half of this season is almost priceless. Secondly, Kharkiv Falcons are one of the two champion teams that did not play a single match at home. It’s very difficult when you’re not playing for your fans, you’re training in one gym, and you’re playing in a different gym every time, even on home tours. In these conditions, 4 defeats in 13 matches is a good result.

One of the most negative moments of this year was not being able to participate in the last four of the Ukrainian Cup. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky in the draw. After an emotionally difficult and physically exhausting match with Krivbass, we did not have enough strength for the next match against Kiev-Basket in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, our performances in the cup are over, but now we will be able to focus all our efforts on the championship.

Our main problem now is injuries. We have five injured players, three of whom have serious injuries that require a long recovery period. We’re about to get off to a very tough start to the new calendar season because the Falcons will be playing basketball six weekends in a row, which means six road trips with no rest time. If we could count on all twelve players in the squad at the beginning of the season, there will no longer be such a rotation. Therefore, all the responsibility and burden will fall on the players in the rankings. I hope they get over their injuries in the new year, recover from their injuries as soon as possible, return to work and help their beloved club properly represent Kharkiv in the Super League.

Despite the holidays, we have training scheduled almost seven days a week. “I really hope that by January 10 we will be a combat-ready team that can solve serious problems.”
