Prometheus applied to the FBU and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine
Ukrainian basketball club “Prometheus” He appealed to the President of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, Mikhail Brodsky, to the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Vadim Gutsait, and to the entire basketball community about the contribution that the club must make in order to participate in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship.
Official appeal of BC “Prometheus”:
Everyone knows the situation with the mandatory contribution of the “Prometheus” basketball club to the Basketball Federation for participation in the Ukrainian championship, which is 4.5 million hryvnia, and 40 thousand hryvnia for all other clubs.
Club president Vladimir Dubinsky and our team’s players made this public in a lengthy interview, but we did not receive a response from the FBU and Prometheus’ fee was not discounted. With such actions of the federation, the sports career of twelve young players of our club, who, despite their readiness to take part in the Ukrainian championship, had to miss the next season, was threatened. Preparations for the season started in August.
At the same time, despite the difficult times for the country, Prometheus opens the basketball school, giving many children the opportunity to play basketball in a new hall equipped with modern equipment, while the club also supports young Ukrainian basketball players in Riga. He was forced to leave Ukraine due to Russian military aggression.
We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the general sponsor of Prometheus, the Budinvest Engineering company, is also the sponsor of the Ukrainian national team in the last matches of the World Cup qualifiers.
Yesterday, the mail of the Latvian-Estonian League received a letter from the FBU stating that Prometheus did not contribute to participation in the Ukrainian Championship in the 2022-2023 season. And the FBU automatically deprived players of their licenses.
As players who have played in the Ukrainian national team for many years, we want to know and understand how this is possible in the civilized world. All club players are officially registered in the Latvian-Estonian league and have already played two official matches, so Prometheus club players can’t also join the Latvian-Estonian league?
We are Ukrainian athletes, our only desire is to play under the flags of Ukraine, to prove our invincibility to the world, to glorify our country in the European arenas, and now we do not understand why they made us a bargaining chip! We strive for one thing – to represent and play Ukraine!
We ask you to examine the situation, resolve the issue and make a fair decision that will primarily benefit Ukrainian basketball and Ukraine as a whole.
We believe that no one will feel good if Prometheus does not take part in the Ukrainian Championship and does not represent our country in the European arena. When the whole country is united, when everyone in their city shows a common desire for victory over the enemy, we ask you to solve this problem in favor of Ukrainian basketball.”
Best regards, players of the basketball club “Prometheus”:
Denis Lukasov
Ilya Sidorov
Ivan Tkachenko
Issouf Sanon
Alexander Lipovoy
Vyacheslav Petrov
It should be noted that earlier Prometheus refused to participate in the Ukrainian Basketball Championship, after which the FBU overestimated the club fee by 100 times.

PLEKHANOV: “There are also a few points I would like to point out”
Head coach of “Kharkov Falcons” Valery Plekhanov He summarized the team’s 2025 results and talked about the preparations for the continuation of the season:
“Summing up the results of the calendar year, I want to congratulate all our fans on the upcoming New Year and Merry Christmas, wish our favorite team peace and good victories! “Kharkov Falcons” are the first players of this Super League season, so second place at the moment is a good result.
There are a few points we would like to emphasize separately. First of all, seven players from last season’s active squad won the Premier League together, but five of them never played in the Super League. Therefore, the experience they gained in the first half of this season is almost priceless. Secondly, Kharkiv Falcons are one of the two champion teams that did not play a single match at home. It’s very difficult when you’re not playing for your fans, you’re training in one gym, and you’re playing in a different gym every time, even on home tours. In these conditions, 4 defeats in 13 matches is a good result.
One of the most negative moments of this year was not being able to participate in the last four of the Ukrainian Cup. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky in the draw. After an emotionally difficult and physically exhausting match with Krivbass, we did not have enough strength for the next match against Kiev-Basket in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, our performances in the cup are over, but now we will be able to focus all our efforts on the championship.
Our main problem now is injuries. We have five injured players, three of whom have serious injuries that require a long recovery period. We’re about to get off to a very tough start to the new calendar season because the Falcons will be playing basketball six weekends in a row, which means six road trips with no rest time. If we could count on all twelve players in the squad at the beginning of the season, there will no longer be such a rotation. Therefore, all the responsibility and burden will fall on the players in the rankings. I hope they get over their injuries in the new year, recover from their injuries as soon as possible, return to work and help their beloved club properly represent Kharkiv in the Super League.
Despite the holidays, we have training scheduled almost seven days a week. “I really hope that by January 10 we will be a combat-ready team that can solve serious problems.”
