Bartzokas: “We have a team that will win everywhere, but we will also encounter difficulties”

Giorgos Bartzokas admitted he was satisfied with Olympiakos’ initial 3-0 win in the EuroLeague after beating Real in Madrid, but emphasized that the team against Baskonia (20/10, 21:30, Novasports Prime and Sportish LIVE), but also that the “Red-Whites” compete to win and not just play well.

Giorgos Bartzokas is delighted that Olympiacos are now 3-0 in the EuroLeague after beating Real Madrid in Madrid. Now he wants to see how it goes.

The coach of the “Red and White” confirmed the good start of the team, but emphasized before tomorrow’s (October 20th) game against Baskonia (9.30 p.m., Novasports Prime and LIVE from Sportish) that attention was required.

Giorgos Bartzokas explained in detail:

For the original 3-0: “The start is really very encouraging for our team. We played on two difficult courses and also beat Zalgris, which wasn’t easy for me. It was a tricky match. From here, as I said, every game in the Euroleague is a different story.”

For the game against Baskonia: “It’s a completely different game against Baskonia than against Real. The plan you have to follow is completely different, you have to do completely different things defensively and offensively. Of course, Baskonia is not invulnerable, but they are in good form, it is a team that plays with a lot of confidence and of course controls the pace in this game and that pitch is always important.”

On what Olympiacos must do to get another double: “In addition to our defence, we have to be patient when attacking. Slow down the pace of the game a little without choosing hasty options. If we can’t surprise with good conditions, we have to do it.” have good ball circulation. To move the defense a little bit, to open the tempo”.

How important it is that he started with 2 away wins: “Personally, I separate teams that could play well and those that want to win. So we will play well or we will win the game. My own feeling is that Olympiacos come in to win the game. That means he might not be playing as well as yesterday (19/10 vs Real), he might not be able to work in key areas of the game, but I feel like we’re going to win. We have to do what it takes at the end and as the game progresses to win.

That’s what our players do. We have a team that will win everywhere. Of course, the team won’t win everywhere, they will also have difficulties… I think we have to keep in mind that we have three wins, regardless of places, I don’t believe in places. It’s three EuroLeague wins you bet on which number will match the 8 which is the target. Of course it’s important for everyone, but you can lose against the same teams, so you just have to look to the next game.”

For his part, Isaiah Kanan explained:

The coach will give us the plan for tomorrow’s game and we have to carry it out. We should continue to follow the coach’s plan, believe in each other and be one. We certainly have a chance. We know we’ll be playing in a stadium with a nice atmosphere against a team that’s playing very well at the moment. However, if we do what the coach asks of us, we will succeed.”

When asked if he had adjusted, he replied: “The most important thing at the moment is that we win the games. I’ll keep trying to do what I’m able to do on the pitch. I know the whole team believes in me, the coach believes in me and I’ll do anything to win… If that means scoring goals or defending, that’s fine with me. I’ll do whatever it takes for the team to win.”

PLEKHANOV: “There are also a few points I would like to point out”

Head coach of “Kharkov Falcons” Valery Plekhanov He summarized the team’s 2025 results and talked about the preparations for the continuation of the season:

“Summing up the results of the calendar year, I want to congratulate all our fans on the upcoming New Year and Merry Christmas, wish our favorite team peace and good victories! “Kharkov Falcons” are the first players of this Super League season, so second place at the moment is a good result.

There are a few points we would like to emphasize separately. First of all, seven players from last season’s active squad won the Premier League together, but five of them never played in the Super League. Therefore, the experience they gained in the first half of this season is almost priceless. Secondly, Kharkiv Falcons are one of the two champion teams that did not play a single match at home. It’s very difficult when you’re not playing for your fans, you’re training in one gym, and you’re playing in a different gym every time, even on home tours. In these conditions, 4 defeats in 13 matches is a good result.

One of the most negative moments of this year was not being able to participate in the last four of the Ukrainian Cup. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky in the draw. After an emotionally difficult and physically exhausting match with Krivbass, we did not have enough strength for the next match against Kiev-Basket in the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, our performances in the cup are over, but now we will be able to focus all our efforts on the championship.

Our main problem now is injuries. We have five injured players, three of whom have serious injuries that require a long recovery period. We’re about to get off to a very tough start to the new calendar season because the Falcons will be playing basketball six weekends in a row, which means six road trips with no rest time. If we could count on all twelve players in the squad at the beginning of the season, there will no longer be such a rotation. Therefore, all the responsibility and burden will fall on the players in the rankings. I hope they get over their injuries in the new year, recover from their injuries as soon as possible, return to work and help their beloved club properly represent Kharkiv in the Super League.

Despite the holidays, we have training scheduled almost seven days a week. “I really hope that by January 10 we will be a combat-ready team that can solve serious problems.”
