Vassilis Skountis greets Nikos Galis at the Trace n Chase venue in Thessaloniki on the 2nd episode of Stoiximan’s The Lost Tapes and joins him for a discussion involving lots of basketball, baskets and life lessons.
Many of the fairy tales have a dragon, so the legend of Greek basketball has its own. Only his dragon is one of the good guys in the story.
The prologue for Panagiotis Giannakis, of course. Born on Patmou Street in Nikaia, he managed to belong to the sacred monsters of Greek basketball.
A journey that started at Ionikos was followed by great success with Aris to continue at Panionios and Panathinaikos, whom he helped win his first European Championship before retiring.

The years of his contribution to Greek basketball don’t stop there, since then a coaching career has followed in which he left an indelible name in the history of Greek basketball. He took the technical lead of the “blue and whites” and took them to the top of Europe in 2005 and second in the world in 2006, with the historic victory over the USA Giannakis took on a “mythical” character for what he has brought to the sport, both both as a player and as a coach.
It essentially became the link, as a player and as a coach, in the two golden generations of Greek basketball and the two European Championships won by the national team. Collectively, they won the cup with Olympiakos.
