The Moscow Regional Court upheld the sentence of American basketball player Brittney Griner, who was previously sentenced by the Khimki city court to 9 years in a penal colony in a drug smuggling case.
In addition to the prison term, the 32-year-old athlete was punished with a fine of 1 million rubles. On August 4, Greiner was found guilty under paragraph “c” of Part 2 of Art. 229.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (smuggling of narcotic drugs in a significant amount). The court stated that she only partially admitted her guilt.
Greiner was detained on February 17 at Sheremetyevo Airport while trying to illegally import hash oil.
The basketball player, who has been playing for the Yekaterinburg UMMC since 2015, twice won the Olympic Games as part of the US team (2016, 2020), participated in WNBA All-Stars matches seven times.
