EuroLeague Final Four moves away from Kaunas
The Lithuanian government is refusing to fund the Euroleague Final Four event in Kaunas and the event is… up in the air.
As has been known for a long time, Zalgiris wants to host this year’s final Four she EuroLeague in Kaunas, but it seems that this plan will not be realized.
Zalgiris general manager Paulius Motiegounas admitted to LRT that the Lithuanian government refused to allocate the one million euros needed to organize the final Fourdue to the energy crisis and the existing general instability.
“We received an answer from the government that they will not allocate funds to us due to the crisis and that there is no money in the budget to organize such events.
We accepted it as a clear fact. We had a whole plan prepared, we had submitted it to the EuroLeague, we had community support and we expected to get government support.
At the moment the ball is in the EuroLeague field and we are waiting for an answer, but the chances that we will organize the Final 4 are minimal, since our candidacy is much weaker compared to the others.” he hinted indicatively.
