We expected a derby at the Palau Blaugrana but we didn’t see a derby! Barcelona did everything they wanted against Armani Milano (74-56) who put on his worst performance of the year.

Barcelona’s game against Armani Milano started out as a derby. However, with the exception of the first quarter, this label was not confirmed on the pitch. Sarunas Jasikevicius’ team “suffocated” – thanks to their great defense – the guests, quickly increased the difference in terms of safety and in the end came to victory much easier than expected (74:56).

All this on an evening where the Blaugrana disappointed at the three-pointer (21/03 – 14.3%) but dominated close to the basket (27/41 – 65.9%).

The race

With the exception of the first five minutes (2-8 in 4′), Barcelona controlled the pace and took the game where it wanted. At the same time, however, he failed to limit Brandon Davis’ action (10 points with 5/6 two-pointers in the first section), resulting in “X” (21-21 at 10′).

Sarunas Jasikevicius’ players continued to lead and needed a three-minute push to reach a double-digit superiority (39-26 at 18′), showing they can do the job. The first-half +14 (43-29) for Barcelona also explained a lot about Armani Milano’s poor image, who had 11/30 shots and 6 assists for 5 errors at the break.

The visitors had to press the ball to chase the turnover, but that’s all they didn’t do. The problem protecting the racquet continued as the offense failed and took the Spain lead to +17 (46-29 in 24 minutes) before Devon Hall broke the pomegranate with a three-pointer. In practice, of course, zero in the quotient for Ettore Messina’s team.

Barcelona continued to maintain the safety distance, with the +20 (61-41) of the 30th minute essentially writing the epilogue and giving Sarunas Jasikevicius the right to open the rotation.
