Lawyers for American basketball player Brittney Greiner said that the athlete was sent from a pre-trial detention center to a penal colony to serve a sentence in a drug smuggling case.
In October, the Moscow Regional Court upheld the sentence of Greiner, who had previously been sentenced by the Khimki City Court to 9 years in a penal colony in a drug smuggling case. In addition to the prison term, the 32-year-old athlete was punished with a fine of 1 million rubles.
– Our client Brittney Greiner was sent on November 4 from the pre-trial detention center, in which she had been from the moment of detention, to a general regime colony to serve her sentence. At the moment we have no information about her current whereabouts or where she is headed. We, as lawyers, as well as the US Embassy, must be notified upon her arrival at her destination, the lawyers said in a statement cited by Match TV.
The basketball player, who has been playing for the Yekaterinburg UMMC since 2015, twice won the Olympic Games as part of the US team (2016, 2020), participated in WNBA All-Stars matches seven times.
