Lawyers for the American basketball player Brittney Greiner confirmed the information that the athlete is serving a sentence in a drug smuggling case in a women’s colony in Mordovia.
Earlier Thursday, the media reported that Greiner is in penal colony No. 2 in the village of Yavas.
“First of all, on behalf of Brittney, we want to thank everyone who was worried about her. In the past few days, we have received a huge number of messages with words of encouragement.
We confirm that Brittney has started serving her sentence in IK-2 in Mordovia. We visited her earlier this week. Brittney is coping with the situation as much as possible and trying to hold on and adapt to the new conditions. Considering that this is a very difficult period for Brittney, there will be no further comments from us in the near future,” the lawyers said in a statement published on the Match TV website.
The basketball player was detained in February while trying to illegally import hash oil through Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport. In August, a Khimki court sentenced a 32-year-old American woman to nine years in a penal colony and a fine of one million rubles.
The interests of the 32-year-old basketball player are represented by lawyers Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov.
