Spanoulis assumed primary responsibility as coach
Disappointed in his basketball players, Vassilis Spanoulis said after Peristeri’s home loss to Ritas.
The result in the match with Ritas was negative. Peristeri also lost 2-2 at home and are now level on points with Lithuania with two games remaining in the Basketball Champions League group stage final. Qualifying for the playoffs looks like an overachievement, entering the play-in tournament (and meeting PAOK) also requires effort, with Vassilis Spanoulis looking disappointed on Wednesday night.
What the Peristeri coach said in detail:
“Missing rebounds show a lack of effort and that’s the worst. As a coach I can accept everything, a bad day and a failure, that’s part of the game, but lack of effort is not. I don’t accept that and it weighs on me. I take responsibility because it turned out that I didn’t prepare the team well. Ritas is the champion of Lithuania, we are still building. It’s my job to find solutions. With Bilan, Agravanis, Kaselakis, Juston and Radanov, the rebound shouldn’t be a problem for us at this level, but we saw it in today’s game. It was more of a lack of concentration“.
