KOVLYAR: “I want to come to the national team of Ukraine as prepared as possible”
The 20-year-old playmaker of the Ukrainian national team played a strong match for Kalev against Viimsi in the Latvian-Estonian League the previous day. Kovlyar set a record 30 points (4/6 two points, 6/10 three points, 4/4 free throws) in 29 minutes, adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
About the match played with Viimsi: “Fights with Viimsi are always difficult and quite tense. This is an uncompromising team. After a long break, we started to play much more aggressively, especially in defense, and this paid off.
When it came to my game, my teammates trusted me and I tried to seize the opportunities I had.
About the role in the team: Our team was built so that we don’t have a clear leader, so we try to play as a team whenever possible.
First of all, when you play here, you are already a legionnaire and you have to give results accordingly. In terms of interceptions, I always try to be as aggressive on defense as possible to make life difficult for the other team’s players.
Can’t say I’m currently working on a separate component in the game, a little bit of everything. We have a very strict program in terms of gameplay, and at this stage, you already use what was brought to automatism in the game.
About the Ukraine team: “I will try to improve him, not only to be in the same form, but also to come to these matches as prepared as possible,” said Kovlyar.
