NBA, Oakley for John: “In my day, he would come off the bench”
Veterans center Charles Oakley spoke about Giannis Antitokoumbo and how different things would be if he played in the ’90s, who didn’t hesitate to admit he’d come off the bench if Giannis played in his day.
NBA veteran Charles Oakley has enjoyed a lengthy career in the league, primarily in New York and Chicago, spanning nearly two decades. In his statements to Giannis Antetokounbo, he mentioned that if “Greek Freak” played in his time, he would be a player coming off the bench.
In doing so, he wanted to emphasize how tough the NBA was when he played while not failing to “take his hat off” to Giannis and said he was satisfied with what the Bucks had won last season did to the championship, gained his respect.
“After what he did last year he convinced me he deserves his respect. In the 90s it would have been different, he wouldn’t have been that strong, he would have been forced to jump, he couldn’t have done what he’s doing now, he would have finished the phase with eurostep and so on. In my day, he would come off the bench.”
