Gasol chose the top three favorites for the 2023 World Cup, skipping Greece
Pau Gasol has named three favorites for the 2023 World Cup, not including the Greek national team.
Pau Gasol will be keeping a close eye on the 2023 World Cup as FIBA has chosen him as one of the event’s ambassadors and has already started making predictions. In fact, in an interview with Basket News and Donatas Urbonas, he named the three teams he thinks are most likely to win the trophy in the Philippines, with the Greek national team not among his options.
“I think you have to go for the champions, that’s Spain, who also happen to be 1 in the FIBA world rankings. The USA are the next favourite. They’ll be my second choice. And for the third choice, me either think of France or Slovenia, it depends who ends up ending up, but I’m going for Slovenia.
France have done extremely well in recent competitions. We have to see if it continues to develop at the level of the last few years, because at some point the downtrend will start. I don’t know if it will happen at this World Cup because they still have a young body, but they still have to perform.
I go with Slovenia because Luka (Doncic) always gives them a chance to get high and he’s very tough.” he said at length.
