Kostas Papanikolaou thought of both the victims of Thira 7 and the thousands dead left by the deadly earthquake in Turkey after Olympiacos’ comfortable victory over Alba.

Olympiakos captain Kostas Papanikolaou dedicated the team’s victory over Alba to the victims of Thira 7, as did Giorgos Bartzokas, while not failing to mention the tragic disaster that has befallen Turkey.

“It’s a day for us and our club, a day of remembrance. This victory is dedicated to the victims of Gate 7 and their families. After all, basketball took a back seat to the earthquake in Turkey and the thousands of victims. Our concentration was the most important key in our possession and it showed in the second 10 minutes when we briefly lost our composure and the gap was reduced to 10 points.” he first remarked when speaking to the NOVA camera.

For appearing despite your absence: “The way the process is set up, anyone who sees their problems loses touch with reality. Our absences are important, but there is the energy, the will and the something… more to achieve the victories.”

What the goal is for: “We have to keep the standards high. If we take anything for granted, what has been a successful year so far could turn into a tragedy.”
