According to the tournament regulations, only four teams out of the ten qualifying groups will go to EuroBasket 2023. Also, after the main criterion – the number of points scored, the difference in goals in personal meetings is counted. The results of the fourth teams of their quartet are not taken into account. And here our team is not in very good shape. Assuming that France, Ukraine and Lithuania will make the top three (and 99% likely will), then we currently have a goal difference of -21. To understand the complexity of the task, it is worth saying that before the fifth round of selection, those who passed from the second to the fourth place had the numbers +17. This isn’t the rosiest math. But let’s put pessimism aside. As long as our girls have a chance, we need to hug them. To begin with, we have to beat the Finnish national team from outside our group.
The women’s team from the country of Suomi ranks at the bottom of European basketball, but has shown a positive trend in results recently. If in the EuroBasket 2019 qualifiers the northerners lost all six games in the group to the teams of France, Slovenia and Romania by a combined margin of -201 points, then in the EuroBasket 2021 qualifiers the Finns have already finished qualifying. a victory in existence (70:62 against Portugal). And although the Finnish girls have not yet won in the current election of EuroBasket 2023, they had a serious fight against the Ukrainians and Lithuanians, as well as the expected defeat from France.
