War in Ukraine: Russian teams in state of emergency, risk of losing all Americans
The state of war in Ukraine has prompted the State Department to urge all American citizens, including athletes, to leave Russia immediately and return to the United States.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war situation in the wider region have already made many athletes decide to leave Russia and return to their home countries. In a statement on Sunday night, February 27, the State Department urged all Americans in Russia to return to the United States immediately for their own safety.
Many airlines have canceled flights to and from Russia, prompting the US government to request the return of all of its citizens living in Russia.
“American citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately by any means possible.” At the same time The State Department has asked Americans to have “an alternative plan for disengagement from Russia that does not require the support of the US government.”
These are the Americans from CSKA Moscow:
- Alex Freimann
- Will Claiborne
Here are the Americans from Unics Kazan:

These are the Americans from Zenit:

Of course, it’s not just about Americans. Nikola Milutinov has a meeting with CSKA today to decide what will happen while the American-Russian-Ukrainian Boloboi will not stay in Moscow.
For their part, the French have urged French citizens in Russia to return due to limited flights from Russia to other European countries.
“Due to the increasing restrictions on flights between Russia and the rest of Europe, we urge French citizens who have visited Russia to leave the country immediately.” Something that is currently occupying tourists but will deal directly with those who work there permanently.
