Manolopoulos: “Great win in a great atmosphere”
Sotiris Manolopoulos described Greece’s victory over Turkey in Istanbul for World Cup qualifiers as tremendous.
The men’s national team finished 2/2 in World Cup qualifiers against Turkey and now has one foot in the final stages of the tournament (read the details here).
After the end of the game in Istanbul, Sotiris Manolopoulos declared: “I think it was a huge win in a great atmosphere, in a crowded stadium. It was a very difficult task for us against a very good team. We managed to play well for most of the game and I want to thank all my players for giving their heart 100% as well as my teammates. It was a difficult game, it has nothing to do with the difference we got. It was a time when we were shooting. In the fourth period we didn’t shoot and we panicked. However, we managed to get a great victory that will help us in the future“.
For his part, Costas Papanikolaou remarked: “We played in a great atmosphere, just like at home on Friday. During these three days, people saw how sport should be, but also how the world should be. Not with war! We followed the coach’s plan, the game was evaluated in detail and I think we went through some stages that Turkey didn’t go through. I’m happy about our victory and I wish Turkey the best of luck“.
